our story
My parents, Yiannis and Mary, both originally from Chania, Crete (but lived most of their lives raising me and my younger brother, in Connecticut, USA), decided to buy a plot of land near the village of Xamoudochori to build their ideal retirement home back in 1990. Their architect was so enthusiastic about the potential of the landscape that he suggested they create a holiday lodge where others can share their enchantment with the beauty and tranquility of the site. That is exactly what ensued, and “Yiannis’ Retreat” was open for business several years later. Yiannis secretly hoped that his children would one day fall in love with his beloved Crete and join in on the family business. Now, after welcoming couples to his “home” for over 20 years, the baton has been passed to me, with great pleasure!
